About Our Organization
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Sacramento (BBBS) is a local affiliate serving children in Yolo, South Placer, San Joaquin and Sacramento Counties, using funds raised to match local children from single parent homes with adults who spend an average of about 4 hours per week in visiting with the child and such activities as attending school functions, playing ball, playing games, talking, listening....all the things that a child needs to grow up with a positive attitude about life. Most importantly, the volunteer is the child’s friend. Mentoring can take place on school campuses or in the community. Professional staff carefully screen, train and provide on-going support for the volunteers and children matched, offering on-going training and emotional support for as long as the children are in the program. Kids with big brothers or big sisters do better in school, feel better about themselves, get along better with their parents and peers and tend to avoid getting into trouble.
